Hi! I´m Geova and I love books, so here I post my opinions about the books I read.
Ok, seriously, what happened here? In this book we find this girl Penellaphe -Poppy for friends- who lives in a castle, she’s chosen as «The Maiden», and what’s does this mean? A lot of crap, Poppy goes everywhere with two guards, she can´t go out and ALWAYS has to weae a veil. And here comes the good thing about this whole thing, she is a rebel girl, she has been trained with swords, daggers, she goes to the library and read «forbidden» books, and hangs out with Hawke. And who the hell is Hawke? He is a royal guard, a sarcastic guy, with a very particular humor, too hot for Poppy’s own good. Another interesting thing in this book is the history, some time ago there was a war and since then, the monarchy has been built based on the Ascended, who are a kind of elite that governs everything. Furthermore there is a promise that Prince Casteel will return and destroy the entire kingdom. With all this we find a story full of intrigue, where there is everything you can imagine, if I say something else it will be a spoiler, so, lips sealed. But this is my opinion: This book is amazing, the plot catches you from the begining, the characters are quite complicated and you don’t expect what the hell they are going to do in the following pages, the plot twists that happen especially in the last few chapters leave you wanting to read more about this world. So I need the sequel ASAP otherwise I will collapse from anxiety! 5/5 stars.

From Blood and Ash
5/5 estrellas.
I know I know, today is august 10th and here I am talking about books that I read last month, but it’s just because this is the second part of the july’s reads, shall we begin?
Seven books and counting, this time, a short story, The Lost Sisters by Holly Black, 3 of 5 stars. This is basically the story of The Cruel Prince with a little twist, It’s Taryn POV, so spoilers of TCP are coming.
In this story Holly Black tells us what the hell happen with Taryn in TCP, how she fell in love with Locke, and how she promised him not tell anyone about their “relationship”, I can say more about because the story is like 30 pages maybe and the whole plot its that. I liked yes, but, I would like more if the author showed us something new about Taryn because, the only thing that explain is why I dislike her as a character and how in love she is, also, how she wants to say a word to Jude.
A quote from the story:
Be bold be bold but not too bold
The Lost Sisters
Ok move on, book number 8 was waiting for being read in my tbr for so long, A course so dark and lonely by Brigid Kemmerer, 4.5/5 stars for this beauty. First of it, this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling so, you think you will know what is going to happen in the story but we are wrong, this is a very different retelling in my opinion.
This is the story of Rhen, the heir of Emberfall, a cursed land and Heather a Fearless girl from Washington D.C., they met each other because, Grey a friend of Rhen is sent to find a girl who fall in love with the prince, here he take Heather and being the badass girl who she is, she helps them to break the curse that terrifies the kingdom.
This is the plot of the book, and I loved it, it’s easy to read, very addictive, I can’t stop reading until the end, that freaking ending was good, but what happen with the authors? Why do they like to write that kind of cliffhanger? But that is the less important because second book comes out next January.
I really like the fact that our protagonist is a girl with physical problems and that thing doesn’t stop her, she is fearless, smart, kind, she actually cares for the people, and obviously forma Rhen. Oh my dear Rhen, he’s lost the hope of break the curse, he is also smart and grave, and it’s a super strategist.
I can’t say more, so go reading the book, or if you already did, tell me what do you think of it.
A quote of the book:
Not all the scars can be seen
A curse so dark and lonely
Book number nine, and one of my favorites, the wicked King by Holly Black, 5/5 stars for this book. This is a second part of the folk of the air, so beware with the spoilers.
In the first book de knew Jude, a human girl who has taken with her sisters to faerie by Madoc, Vivi’s father, here she grew up and become a badass spy, who is as good as other fae warriors with the sword. Also here we met Cardan, a prince of faerie, the youngest of his brothers and a very cruel “boy”; they apparently hate each other and a lot of intrigues and conspiracies happened in the first book, but the important is the accord between Jude and Cardan. In The Wicked King, we see how Jude can control the King Cardan for a year and a day, also the book tells us what happen beyond faerie and the things that will come for both of them.
I really, really, liked this book, the tension between the characters, not only between Jude and Card, but also between Jude and Taryn, the kingdom of Elfhame and the kingdom of the sea, and other people. I love the relationship between Cardan and Jude, because they seem to want to kill the other, but, in reality, they don’t even know they really want.
But the important, seven hells, what about the ending, again, another mega cliffhanger, and I’m here dying slowly waiting for november, I need The Queen of Nothing ASAP, I need answers. I definitely recommend this series, if you like fae things maybe you will love this.
And the book number ten, and the last one was Harry Potter and the philosopher’s stone, a reread, the 4491032 time I read this book, and as usual I loved it. I don’t really think necessary explain the plot of the saga, there are 8 movies, and maybe this saga is one of the most famous book series, so what can I say? I love Hogwarts, the magical world, the story, and everything around this world, this is the first book I ever read, and I share birthday with neville, also, Harry Potter was a very important source of light in the darkness long ago, so I’m sentimentally tied to this books.
And that’s it, ten books in july, very good ones, hope august comes with books as good as those.
Hello my dears! Happy august, today we’ll gonna talk about what books I read this july, I read a total of *drumroll* 10 books!!! well 8 books and two short stories of very good series, but 10 reads are ten reads, so here we go.
Book number one, a reread of Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, this is the second book of the Infernal Devices series, so be careful because the post is long and full of spoilers, but don´t worry, I’ll warn you when the spoilers appear. I gave it 5 stars, and trust me, no regrets.
Ok TID tell the story of the young Tessa Gray, a girl from the US, who, after the loss of her aunt, and literally everything she had, go to London to live with her brother, Nate, but before she finds him a pair of weird woman kidnaped her and teaches her about one gift she has and don’t even notice, she can changes into other people just holding something of them, very cool but so problematic too.
Ok the thing is that someday, two boys appear, save her and take her to the London Institute, where the shadowhunters of the victorian epoque live, here a very interesting group of people will help her to find her brother, in exchange, she will be learn who she is. In this group of shadowhunters we find Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, a pair of parabatai (a kind of bff but in the next level), the three of them became friends and work together to find a evil master who can create a kind of robots animated with black magic, the magister.
So, more of less this is the plot of the series, a very good one to be honest. so the spoilers are coming.
In the book two, Clockwork Prince, Tessa and Will are avoiding each other, but is really difficult, Jem is going worse, Will is going to lose his mind and with the help of Magnus he is trying to find a way out of this madness, but everything is going to burn because Benedict Lightwood wants the London institute and obviously, the crew is going to fight for keep it.
About this, Mortamain and Nate are still “invisible” but their evil plans continue annoying our beloved shadowhunters and downworlders, to stop him, Charlotte and her crew only have 15 days.
This is the only things I can say without spoiling you the whole plot of the book, I loved it, I think that TID is one of my favorites of all times, I love Will so much, and in this specific book we know that he and Jem have the best relationship, they care for each other more than themselves, and my heart hurt when they say that he’s gonna die eventually, Tessa is a fearless girl, a powerful warlock and, like Will, a total bookworm.
If you haven’t read TID what are you waiting? Maybe you will love them as much as I do.
A quote that I love from this book:
We live and breathe words
Clockwork Prince
Book number two, one of my most anticipated 2019 books, King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo, the first in the Nikolai Lantsov Duology, 5 stars because, IT WAS AWESOME, this opinion has a lot of spoilers of the Grisha Trilogy and Six of crows, so sorry for you, continue scrolling to book number three.
Ok first of it, in this book we found out what the hell happened after the death of the Darkling, what happened with Ravka, with the second army, and obviously with Nikolai, three years has passed since the Ruin and Rising and everything is going well… more or less, because some nights the monster inside Nicolai comes out for fun, and the only people that know the secret are Zoya, the general, Genya, the tailor, David the fabrikator and Tolya and Tamar, the twins.
Also, the other nations wants alliances with Ravka or war, it depends of the mood of the ruler that day. On the other hand, in Fjerda, Nina and other two grisha are trying to find out things about the jurda parem and how to create and antidote, also, Nina is looking for a place for Mathias’ body and how to deal with her new (and very cool tbh) power to control or raise or even listen the dead, in this place she and the others will find a creepy secret.
As well, a weird and crazy monk has created the “Starless one” cult, this is a kind of change.org petition to become the Darkling a saint, yep, you read well A SAINT, the freaking Darkling a saint. this three storylines are going to complicate the things for my dear Nikolai and his journey through this book is epic.
Epic, this is the only one word I can use to describe this book in all its glory, it’s beautiful, the world building is amazing, the lore is brilliant and obvious, the plot had me super tense at every page, I finished the +500 pages in one day, I can’t stop read it, it was excellent, and OMG the end, I don’t tell anything go read it, I’ll wait, after that we can talk about that last sentence.
A quote from the book:
I am the monster, and the monster is me
King of Scars
Let’s continue; book number three was a change of game, I read Royals by Rachel Hawkins, 3 of 5 stars.
The book is about a girl, Daysi and how her life has changed when her sister is engaged with the heir of the crown of Scotland, she thinks that her life is going to continue as normal as usual, but, clearly the things don’t work like that, her boyfriend tried to sell pictures of them, and other scandals involved her, so, the solution to this madness is a trip to Scotland for Summer.
In her days here, Daysi meets a group of very problematic boys, they are the headache of the royal family, the prince Sebastian and his friends, a bunch of crazy and rich guys who think they are the owners of the world, but they are funny AF, part of the group is Miles a grumpy boy, the best friend of the prince and according to Daysi a pain in the ass.The story tells us the adventures of Daysi in Scotland and how she is going to adapt herself to fit in her sister’s new life as a princess.
Honestly I really liked this book, it’s funny and easy to read, I like how the author shows us the story of the family of the future princess not the typical story of the common girl falling in love with the Prince. Other thing that I loved was the relationship between Seb, Daysi and Miles.
A quote from the book
All that matters is the truth as you know it, and as the ones who love you know it.
Royals
Ok read number four was a short story from the grishaverse, this time was The Demon in the Wood, also by Leigh Bardugo, here we know more about the Darkling before he was the evil we met in Shadow and Bone, I loved it, Leigh Bardugo knows how to make a good story in a few pages, and that’s all can tell you about this because if I say more I’ll spoil you the whole plot. So, a quote from the Darkling
You live in a single moment. I live in a thousand
The Darkling
Book number five was the funniest thing I’ve read/listen in a while, My lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows, 4.5/5 stars.
This book is a «retelling»? Of the history of England, specifically the story of the Queen Jane, who reigned in England for nine days. In this book the authors change practically everything that happened in the actual history, here we met the King Edward, a young boy of 16 years who is dying, who has the idea of make her cousin, Lady Jane Gray his successor to the throne, but, his advisor proposes that it would be better for Jane to marry a man, and better be with his son, Gifford, who has a particular affliction, he can turn himself in a horse, because he is an Ethian, a kind of magical people who can change into animals. So, in this context we will find intrigues, murder attempts, love stories, a lot of epic and very fun references of the real history, and a lot of other things that you have to find by yourself.
I really love the book, I listened the audiobook too and the narrator is one of the best that I’ve listened, she has a very marked distinctions between characters and when the things go wild she do it to and make a very expressive narration, I love how the authors use the actual facts to make a story so fun that you can’t drop laughing at all. Go read it or if you prefer audiobooks go and listen it.
A quote from the book
I love you more than I love books
My lady Jane
And for now that’s it, I’ll post the second part of my reads next week so we read us soon Geova out!
P.S. wallpapers with the quotes in the next Post 😀
Hello people, today I’m back to the blog with the books I read in this month, one of the most “simple” months in the year because the thesis I’m trying to write is going well, so I’m happy for that, obviously, if the project is good, the books I read as hobby not lol. But, I passed my goodreads goal for the year (35) so 39 books and counting!!
But you are not here to read about my chaotic life as Msc. archaeology student, you’re here to read about books, in this case, the books I read in June, so let’s begin.
This month I read a total of 5 books:
Book number 1: El principe del sol (the sun’s prince, if you don’t understand spanish) By Claudia Ramirez, she is a Mexican Booktuber and wrote this awesome book, my calcification was 5/5 stars.
In this story we knew Emil, the heir of the crown of Alariel, the land of the sun, literally, it’s the sun itself, who is searching his mother, the queen, who’d been lost long ago.
101 days has passed, and “life’s goes on” so, the council set a norm, Emil has to marry one of the most powerful lady in Alariel, and she has to have some special requirements, first of it, she has to be a solaris, that is, she has to have solar powers, like being able to throw flames or control the sunlight, second, she needs to be part of an important family.
Only three of the girls in Alariel fit in this category, Elyon, Gianna and Mila, the bests friends of the prince Emil, and he has limited time to choose one of them to be his wife. But the interesting here is there is another kingdom, Ilardya, the mysterious land of the moon, and some strange things start to happen around to boths kingdoms.
I don’t say anything about the plot of the book or spoilers of any kind, I just gonna say WHY? why the authors have that evil heart and end a book with such a cliffhanger like this, Claudia doesn’t have a heart or something because she did it, she has become the very thing she swore to destroy (yeah a SW reference), but I wanna say that El principe del sol pleasantly surprised me, because, I didn’t expect that the plot was that good, and the world building was so interesting.
And that’s it, that is all I can say about the book, I’m waiting for the second, and if you can read in spanish or listen I recommend this book so much.
Book number 2: Caraval by Stephanie Garber, I think everyone knows about this book, and the whole series, but I just read the first one, my rate was 4/5 stars.
So, this is the story of Scarlett, the girl who has wrote the master of Caraval, legend, like seven letters in her life, and what that she wants? Her desire is to see the game in Trisda, her home, but, she will never received a reply, until she wrote she’ll marry a man (who she doesn’t met yet, and that’s creepy TBH).
Legend invites her and her sister, Donatella (Tella for short) and the unknown fiance to Isla de los Sueños, the isle where this story took place, in this land there’s one thing the people must remember, it’s only a game, and yeah, it’s only a game, where Tella is lost (this is not a spoiler, literally she is gone in the second chapter or so), and scarlett have 5 days to find her, and win the game and the prize, a wish.
Other interesting thing in Isla de los sueños, is that you can buy a lot of magical things, but you don’t pay with money, you pay with things like honest answers to complicated personal questions.
And what can I say without spoiling you the book? Of course, that the Caraval is magic, there is an excellent plot and I love the circus vibes that the book transmits, also, we have Julian, a very interesting character, and obviously Scarlett and her mission was a very good story to tell, but I didn’t like one thing, but it’s a spoiler, so I feel sorry for not to tell it.
I really recommend the book? yeps I wanna read the other two? It’s that even a question?
Ok Book number 3 in the month: Broken throne, by Victoria Aveyard (The Red Queen series, Cal the dramma King? Maven the evil spawn? yeah the same author), this is the 5th book in the series, so I can’t speak freely about the book so I’ll share my general opinion of the book trying not to spoil the books 1-4 (I’d say try, just try) I gave it 4/5 stars.
Ok, first of it, the red queen series set us in a world divided by the color of the blood, there is the reds, who have normal and boring red blood, and there is the silvers, who have silver blood, and powers, because obviously the weird people with strange blood must have some powerful abilities, like control the water, fire, the freaking mind…
But that’s not the point, the point is that the story (of the whole book series) tells us the story of Mare, a poor red girl who SURPRISE have silver powers, she can control the lightning, and it’s awesome, but not for her in this world, because she is a problem for the kingdom and the king himself.
King who have two sons, Cal, the heir of the throne, who basically is like Daenerys, the stormborn, the unburnt and blah blah, because he is a burner, can control the fire, the flame of the north, the heir of the burning crown, the general of the Nortan army and a stupid young man who loves the crown, but don’t misunderstand me, I love him, but he is stupid in so many ways lol.
And the second one, Maven, the evil himself (the truth must be said), the shadow of the flame and the creepy ex boyfriend kind of guy who stalks Mare, and only wants her, no matter what.
So the book tells us the story of the events that happen after War Storm, the book number four in the series, and it’s good, I love the Fire and light story, that closes the arc of some characters who didn’t end the way I wanted in WS, but finally here they resolve their differences.
And that’s all can I say, I like the book, I loved to read an final for some plots, but I wanted more, because I loved the first book, but, so many politics have involved in the other books that I didn’t know what to think about it, I recommend it only if you wanna know what happen after War Storm.
Book number 4: I read Heartless by Marissa Meyer, I gave it 4.5/5 stars and it’s a really good book.
In this story we meet Catherine, a noble girl of Hearts, many years before the adventures of Alice in Wonderland; very well, this is not a spoiler, this is the story before the Queen of Hearts became in the person we met un Lewis’ Carroll story.
In this beautiful retelling we see Cath’s adventures being the most amazing baker of Hearts, every cake, pie or dessert she makes is awesome, magic and I really feel like I can taste them, and her biggest fan the King, tries to gain her heart, but, an important point here is Jest, the joker of the kingdom, and Cath’s love interest.
Here, without spoilers I just wanna say that I really love the story, since this day, for me, heartless is cannon of the queen of hearts story, so if you haven’t read it, go for it.
Finally, but not less important, I read the last two short stories of Ghost from the shadowmarket, by Cassandra Clare, I gave them 5 stars to each story.
In general, GOSM tells us the story of Jem when he was a silent brother, his adventures here shows us how his life was when he became part of the brotherhood, and specifically here, in The lost world and Forever Fallen, the story is about some important unanswered questions of the end of Queen of Air and Darkness, the last book of the Dark Artifices series, so I can’t say anything, just that I love both of them and I think that are a great point to connect TDA with the wicked powers because the book ends with the words the wicked powers… dun dun dun (mystery music).
This was my june reads, hope you like read my opinions about them and FREE wallpapers made by me with my favorite quote of the book in the end of the post.
He needed to tell her…what? That she was lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved. That he was twisted, crooked, wrong, but not so broken that he couldn’t pull himself together into some semblance of a man for her. That without meaning to, he’d begun to lean on her, to look for her, to need her near. He needed to thank her for his new hat.
First of all, this book is set in the “Grishaverse” created by Leigh Bardugo, but keep calm, you can read it without read the Grisha Trilogy because it doesn’t tell us anything important about this books.
Anyway, Six of Crows tells us the story of six characters, Kaz Brekker and his crew of criminals; located in Ketterdam, a city of violence and a lot of crime opportunities, this book’s plot is about a work, a big big work for Dirty Hands AKA Kaz, who recruits some interesting people.
First of all of them, Jesper, the shooter, a kind of friend for Kaz, a bettor, expert in weapons and shots. Then we have Inej, The Wraith, the best and more secretive spy in the world, for real, this girl is basically a shadow :D. The three of them are part of the Dregs, one of the gangs of Ketterdam.
Nina, on the other side, is a Grisha girl, a Heartrender, who all her life she has feared the “drüskelle” some kind of army that is responsible for hunting people like her. Other member of the crew is Wylan, an explosives expert, and a very intelligent young man. And finally we have Matthias, guess what was his job? Oh yeah, he was a drüskelle dun dun dun…
This unstable group has to work together to get the payment they have been waiting for, which could be the solution to their personal problems, because, each character has a very interesting background story to tell, something to fear, hide and to fight for, and here, Bardugo alternates the point of view of the six in this risky rescue mission.
Ok, here comes the good part LOL…
I really really love this book, more than the original story of the grisha, I think it’s because all the 20’s vibe, the descriptions of the places, clothes, Kaz’s gangster style, and obviously, the central plot, I love rescue missions tbh.
I enjoyed the POV’s of this guys, they are so different between each other, and their motivations, and forms to see the life are contrasted between them.
Another important thing I’d like to say is I love Kaz, his look, the cane with the crow, his nickname, dirty hands is really illarant, his back story, and his brain, principally I loved his intelligence, insight and his “black” humor sense.
Without spoilers this is all I can say. I loved this book and I’m really excited to read the next book, “Crooked Kingdom” because the plot at the very end is going to kill me.
Read this book! I really recommend it, if you liked the Grisha, maybe you will enjoy it, and if you don’t read it, this is a good moment because netflix is going to adapt all the grishaverse (Happy dance).
We read us soon, Geova out.
P.S. Wallpapers at the end
Never give up on your dreams, and never let anyone tell you that what you love is inconsequential or useless or a waste of time. Because if you love it? If that OTP or children’s card game or abridged series or YA book or animated series makes you happy? That is never a waste of time. Because in the end we’re all just a bunch of weirdos standing in front of other weirdos, asking for their username.
Geova Fuera.

Now the franchise is going to have a reboot as a movie and playing the role of the famous Prince Carmindor isgoing to be Darien Freeman, one of the most popular actors, who, by the way, is not to Elle’s liking, what she shares with the followers of her blog Rebelgunner.
As I said, this is a retelling of Cindirella, so, in this case the big dance is a cosplay competition in the ExcelsiCon, and the winner could assist to the movie premiere (my dream and maybe the dream of someone reading this), a contest that Elle decides to enter.
Very well, what else can i say about this book without spoilers…
First, I loved it from beginning to end, it’s a pretty enjoyable read, slight, with a simple plot, but catches you since the first time.
Next, I love all of the fandom things, and everything around of being part of a fandom, also of course, all the references to the pop culture that bombards us every day but that we love.
Also I enjoyed a lot the interaction between the both characters, to be honest I loved the chemistry between Elle and Darien, I also enjoyed to much the appearance of two secondary characters, Sage, the loyal best friend, and Frank the most adorable Dachshund that you can find.
However, everething in the story is literally a fairytale, so, I must say that I HATE Chloe with all my heart, by the gods, ancient and new, that girl is genuinely unbearable and I’m sure that she has a serious attention problem, but as a good fairytale, Karma is our best friend.
In summary, Geekerella was a very funny read, I think that every fan who enjoys of simple romances and no drama plots will enjoy it, also of course, if you are a geek and fandom lover, you will feel identified. So yes, I definitely recommend it.
